KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Dec. 2, 2010) – Melissa Sturges and Justin LaBerge recently earned their Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) from the Public Relations Society of America. The designation requires participants to pass both an oral examination by a panel of three seasoned PR pros and a rigorous standardized test.
The program aims to improve the practice of public relations by assessing the competence of PR practitioners in 60 areas of knowledge, skills and abilities associated with the profession. Those who earn the APR must maintain their credential through continuing professional development, providing leadership to the profession and serving their communities.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that there are roughly 275,000 public relations specialists in the United States. Only 5,000 PR professionals have earned the APR designation.
