Challenge

A pioneer and leader in the cement industry, Ash Grove has 2,700 employees operating eight cement manufacturing plants and more than 130 support facilities and subsidiary businesses located in mostly rural communities throughout the Midwest and West.

An objective of the company is to effectively communicate with employees, community members, shareholders, regulators and legislators, addressing situations where access to broadband is uneven, or where the only, or most important, contact is in person, in order to:

  • Recruit and retain employees
  • Convey how the company invests in its communities
  • Demonstrate environmental compliance leadershi

Solution

SWC worked with Ash Grove’s communications leadership to create a strategic communication plan that included:

  • Print communications that leverage newsletters as a channel for high engagement
  • Content that tells stories on news of the business, safety, environmental responsibility, energy efficiency, community action and human interest
