The Sturges Word team identified reporters who covered veterans’ issues and developed personal pitches targeted to each reporter that were specific to each community event.
For the Flightless Honor Flight event, the team reviewed the run of show and identified the best opportunities for compelling visuals that would appeal to broadcast media. We developed all media materials, sent media alerts to news desks, personalized pitches to reporters and producers and followed up to secure coverage.
To garner coverage of the Veterans Voices initiative, the team identified a local veteran who contributes to the magazine to serve as spokesperson along with an associate professor from Grantham who serves on the board of Veteran Voices. We pitched the “writing as therapy for veterans” story as a new way to cover Veterans Day.
