SWC’s Fast Five
It’s back to the drawing board on back to work, you’ll find a super random list of career paths with the highest wage growth (insurance broker anyone?), grim news for youngsters as 60-year careers are forecast for them, good news for the four-eyes among us as eye drops claim to replace glasses and, if you want to forget all that and contemplate the universe – a spacecraft has driven right into the sun. On purpose.
So, here’s this week’s Fast Five:
1 Companies give up on return-to-work plans
In the 22 months since U.S. companies sent their workers home, they still don’t know much more about post-pandemic work than they did in March 2020. Every time companies think it’s safe to go back to work, something else comes up. The latest to foil every return-to-work plan is the arrival of the Omicron variant.
2 Jobs with the fastest wage growth in 2021
The hot job market, characterized by shortages in talent and supplies, hiring managers struggling to fill roles, and worker resignations, has created exciting opportunities for new employees according to Payscale. The job titles with the fastest wage growth include media director, bartender, chief engineer, director of e-Commerce and Insurance broker.
3 The future of work is a 60-year career
Humans may soon live to be 100, which likely means more than 40 years on the job. Half of today’s 5-year-olds can expect to live to the age of 100. So, over the course of their 100-year lives, they can expect to work 60 or more years.
4 NASA spacecraft ‘touches’ sun for 1st time
A NASA spacecraft, The Parker Solar Probe has officially “touched” the sun, plunging through the unexplored solar atmosphere known as the corona. The spacecraft was launched in 2018 and will continue to dive deeper into the corona until its final orbit in 2025.
5 New eye drops could replace reading glasses for millions
New FDA-approved eye drops would potentially replace reading glasses for some of the 128 million Americans who have trouble seeing close-up. The new medicine takes effect in about 15 minutes, with one drop on each eye providing sharper vision for six to 10 hours.
